After one working year in shadow, the National Interprofessional du Cognac office announced the making official by the European Commission and by the Ministry of Feeding, of Agriculture and of Peach, of its eligibility in a programme of promotion for the Appellation Cognac.
The total sum of this programme comes to 1 825 000 € over 3 years and will be financed at the level of 50 % by the European Commission, 30 % by France and 20 % by BNIC. The United States, China and Russia will benefit from these investments at the level of about 600 000€ a year for 2010, on 2011 and 2012 and the programme will consist mainly in:
• Inform Cognac on unique stocks of the Appellation,
• Draw the attention of the different dealers of markets to guarantees given by Appellation and European Geographical Indications.
On this specific programme concerning actions of information and of promotion in favour of farm produce in the third countries, 20 files were deposited by European candidates, 10 were rejected. The Committee finally kept only the half and the Cognac is the only French file to be eligible.
